Suseongmot

Dear reader,

Days are flying by, hard to believe it’s November. It’s been two since my last post - Halloween came and went - we had a school Friday dress-up day/part celebration, the students were pretty uninterested or not impressed which was funny to me.

Also celebrated Kelly’s birthday with some teacher friends here. We ventured to a neighborhood called Suseongmot, and boy were we surprised at where we ended up. Suseongmot was quiet, intimate, and more family-centered it felt compared to our busy downtown Daegu we’ve grown accustomed to. We ate burgers and fries at XX which was a decent burger but expensive beers, all-around a decent time - good to be out with friends exploring.

This last week we taught middle school Daegu students for three days. I got placed with teaching “Designer” as a career choice for my classes with them, it is accompanied with a blue Career Choices book that goes into 12 job options and English exercises with each. I put together a really enjoyable Powerpoint presentation about 6 different types of designers that I wanted to touch on: graphic design, web design, furniture design, product design, interior design, and sustainable design. It went over pretty well, the middle school students were sooo tired in the morning classes, I felt bad for them and was immediately reminded of how tired I was as a teenager and the slog that is school during those years. But I hoped the videos and slides I showed were inspiring, I know seeing other artists and work was inspiring to me at that age. It was a good experience to think about how to adjust your teaching to the different age, but boy I was happy to be back to 5th graders at the end of the week.
