Library Books

Hello friends,

I’ve been wanting to make this post for a while now. This post is dedicated to Eric’s Library class activity, that he created, and I have now implemented in my classes - create a tiny book!  It’s been a very rewarding activity for this subject. Library as a topic, in general, isn’t engaging for 5th graders, to both Eric and my dismay- we cover the basic vocabulary used in a library, but what else could be engaging about the subject of Library? = creating a book! Authors that get to have their work in libraries! (An easy reflex exercise for Eric) So we dive into books and stories. What is a story? What makes a good story? Then we start our tiny book creation! The requirements: they have to write in English and some book art along with it. They can use their phones or me for *some help.

These are my favorite stories that I’ve kept over the last 3 months of teaching the class and wanted to share.

This one has a happy ending, but it’s hard to read, we’ve learned how much Korean students work and study for school. Elementary kids attend academy from 3pm-10pm sometimes. So seeing this book is a little tough. If you’re interested here is a video of what Korean high school students go through trying to pass their college entrance exam, the Suneung, a grueling eight-hour marathon.

This one cold = gold on the mispelled pages.
